When is the last time you celebrated your success?
Raise your hand if you’re an entrepreneur and you’re tired! We all know it takes a lot of work to run a business, but how much extra stress and exhaustion are we unknowingly adding to ourselves? We focus a majority of our time on what we’re not doing, what others are accomplishing and by the time we do have reason to celebrate, we’re already focused on the next “needed” task.
Forbes compares running a start up like “chewing glass and staring into the abyss”, a concept I never thought of but immediately related to. They stated eventually the staring stops the but habit of chewing the glass continues. Another relatable metaphor is running sprints daily, but never reaching a finish line. I quickly thought back to my college soccer (go WVU Mountaineers!) and cringed at the idea of never feeling accomplished after sprint days.
So then why do we do it? Why do we put ourselves through the glass chewing and endless sprints? I know for myself, it’s because I believe the world has the ability to be kinder, stronger, more compassionate and happier. I know I can help others achieve success and a new found confidence. I know I HAVE helped many individuals, teams, and companies. Just writing this blog, I’m attempting to take a moment and let myself feel accomplished for even writing today, something I said I would do more of and never have the time. Learn to take a moment. Our work will still be there, our drive will still be there, let’s let ourselves cross a finish line, celebrate even a tiny moment, and see how a little extra compassion, gratitude and congratulations will not only bring more joy to our professional life, but also into our personal one!
5 Tips Forbes Suggests To Help Acknowledge What Went Right:
